Arabic

The Arabic language is one of the most widely used languages in the world.

The Arabic Language is taught at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi to both native and non-native pupils as part of the normal school curriculum and in line with the guidance given by the Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). Cranleigh pupils benefit from highly communicative classroom environments; and excellent teaching practice is supported by a growing and carefully selected blend of digital and non-digital resources, expressive opportunities, activities and experiences in and out of the classroom. Our home-grown and groundbreaking Guided Reading Scheme provides consistently effective and rapid results and has been greatly appreciated by students and parents.

Language learning, in general, focuses on developing pupils’ confidence to read and assimilate the language, and to communicate orally, in written work and, increasingly, through technology. Accurate and meaningful reading is considered an area of high priority as a whole at every level. This is especially true at Years 7-9 where native students’ progress into more unvowelled texts, as a successful transition through this phase requires robust foundation work early on.

Inter-departmental activities and cross-curricular themes serve to add dimension for our native speakers and help our non-native students contextualise their language skills.  Recent successful collaborations with the Drama and Art Departments have helped to bring the Arabic Culture very much alive, and our aim is to ensure that Arabic speakers of all kinds can benefit from linguistic challenge, immersive situations and modern and inviting means of self-expression within the school context through the medium of Arabic.
Our thriving, dynamic and friendly teaching team has an impressive array of educational and specialist skills and experience, with training and backgrounds both in native speaker education and non-native fields. The team is helpful, receptive, technically proficient, and well-versed in recent advances in pedagogy. The individual needs of the pupil and their assimilation requirements are top of mind as well as working towards structured and universal class targets.
