A combination of practical skills and sound intellectual enquiry are at the heart of Art at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi. Through this engagement, we ensure that children will grow in confidence both in their practical work and in their intellectual grasp of the decisions they have made.

Students have the opportunity to explore new forms of artistic expression through a mix of methods and materials. From dry point etching/collagraphs/string prints to stoneware clay/glazes to photogarphy, each individual is encouraged to push him or herself beyond traditional comfort zones.

The Art Department recognises that the nature of learning is changing. To that end, we have set up an Instagram and YouTube account to celebrate and assist in the education of our young art students.

In the Art Department, the academic and creative approaches are seen as synonymous, each giving strength to the other. There is an emphasis on the grammar of drawing taught through the four principles of drawing, in this way is drawing is made more accessible.

Cranleighans are fortunate to study within a stone’s throw of Manarat Al Saadiyat, a state-of-the-art high-tech centre for interactive, local cultural displays and international exhibitions, plus theatre. The Manarat Al Saadiyat is also host for the annual Abu Dhabi Art, a prestigious art fair that takes place every November, featuring art gallerias, art and design foundations, as well as additional educational programming and talks.

The soon to be opened Louvre Abu Dhabi is also within walking distance and ultimately, Saadiyat’s extraordinary Cultural District will be home to the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum and other world leading museums including a Performing Arts Centre.
