In a caring environment, boys and girls grow in their love of learning through stimulating lessons that stretch all abilities within small classes. The aim of the Prep School is to build firm foundations in all subjects, paving the way for deeper understanding and more complex ideas in the Senior School.
In Years 3 and 4 the boys and girls are taught in mixed ability classes, supervised by a teacher and teaching assistant. Most lessons are taught by their class teacher but specialist staff teach them drama, music, sport, art, languages, Arabic and Islamic Studies. As they move into Years 5 and 6, the model moves entirely to specialist teaching. Setting is introduced to help support and stretch children at both ends of the academic spectrum. We also add language choices in the Prep School in addition to English and Arabic which the pupils start in Pre-Prep. In Year 3 we make French available to all pupils and in Year 7 non-Muslims opt to take either Latin or Spanish as an additional language.
In Year 7 and 8 we cover the Common Entrance 13+ curriculum and we prepare the children to take an internal Common Entrance examination at the end of Year 8, in the core subjects of Maths, English, French and the sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology). These are a rigorous set of examinations set and standardised by the ISEB (Independent Schools Examinations Board). This academic challenge in the Prep School develops pupils that are familiar and assured with exam preparation before entering the Senior School and also allows us to benchmark ourselves against similar schools in the UK.
