Music

At Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, the Music Department is a vibrant place. Every Cranleighan is encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge of music during weekly academic music lessons and through our extensive programme of individual music lessons under the umbrella of the Instrumental Music Scheme. For pupils who already play an instrument, or those who wish to learn one, we will find the right programme for you. At Cranleigh, we strongly encourage all pupils to take up an instrument from Year 3 onwards.  After only a few lessons they find themselves as part of our extensive ensemble programme which includes wind bands, string ensembles, jazz bands, brass bands, orchestras and choirs. All ensembles are supported by experienced and enthusiastic music teachers who work to bring out the very best in every pupil, from beginner musicians to those we are preparing for ABRSM, Trinity College London or Trinity Rock & Pop music examinations.

Why music? Extensive studies have shown that learning an instrument encourages the development of self esteem, leadership, responsibility, discipline, commitment and teamwork. We truly want participation in music to be a successful, rewarding and a musically enjoyable experience for our young musicians at Cranleigh.

To further support our musicians, the Junior School and the Senior School enjoy their own designated practice and band rooms. Located in the Senior School is a world-class auditorium with adjoining 100 seat Recital Hall and recording studio, all home to many of our performances under the banner of the Cranleigh Concert Series which showcases the talents of our musicians at various events each year to the Cranleigh community. Academic music classrooms are equipped with music technology areas and keyboards to offer an enriching curriculum for all pupils.
