We have had the most wonderful privilege over the past week as hosts for the National Danish Performance Team during its first ever visit to the Middle East. The visit has been part of the 2018-19 World Tour which will see the Team take its show – Namuh – to Germany, UAE, South Korea, Taiwan, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, USA and Gran Canaria. Namuh is Human spelled backwards, and is about life, group dynamics and how to find the balance between the individual’s freedom, identity and the group requirements, norms and safety.
The National Danish Performance Team is considered aworld leader in team and display gymnastics. Its shows combine modern rhythmic gymnastics, dance, cheer, artistic vaulting, tumbling and high-energy acrobatics. The Team comprises 28 exceptional gymnasts – all volunteers – each of whom has been selected due to their ability to be a true ambassador of a healthy and happy lifestyle.
During their time at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, the gymnasts ran a series of 60-minute workshops for pupils in Years 3 and above (images below). These focused on tumbling and vaulting, and there was a specific leadership element for Sixth Formers. The gymnasts also ran a masterclass for teachers from Cranleigh and eight other schools from within the Abu Dhabi Schools Sports Associate (ADISSA). Finally, the Team gave two incredible public performances which are captured in the images above.
We are already hoping to be able to welcome the Team back on their next World Tour in 2020!
