Pre-Prep (Ages 3 - 7)

From the ages of 3 to 7 pupils are based in the Pre-Prep which comprises of Nursery, FS2, Year 1 and Year 2. The classrooms, indoor and outdoor learning spaces are purpose-built, spacious and well-equipped with a wide range of learning materials available to challenge the children.

In addition, the children are also able to make use of facilities such as our Swimming Pool, Sports Hall, Dance Studio and Auditorium.

We look forward to moving to our new campus in Saadiyat Reserve in January 2024. We have spent time designing the campus to the highest specification and sourcing high-quality materials and resources which align with our established Cranleigh standards of excellence.

Safety and educational experience are paramount. Term 1 of the new academic year will begin on our current campus site, and Term 2 (January 2024) will continue at the new campus.

Pre-Prep teaching teams for the 2023/24 academic year are confirmed and will remain the same with the transition to the new campus, maintaining consistency of teaching leads and assistants in each class.

We are eager to share this new space and new chapter with you and your children. Please contact the Admissions Team if you have any questions regarding the new campus.

Throughout the Pre-Prep class sizes are small and each has a well-qualified and experienced classroom teacher supported by a teaching assistant. We provide the children in the Pre-Prep with a broad and balanced curriculum with valuable experience-based learning opportunities and a structured learning environment. This allows each child to be nurtured and to develop at their own pace. In a supportive, caring, secure, happy and creative environment, they develop in line with our ethos, to fulfil their potential.

In our Nursery we provide a healthy balance between free play and a more teacher-directed, structured approach to learning through play and engendering curiosity within each child. Under the framework of the UK Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which sets the standards for the learning, development and care, children are empowered to be confident and independent. The concept of respect for themselves and for others is instilled and reinforced through carefully planned social-skills development.  In FS2 the children continue to learn within this programme which covers seven main areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematical Development
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

In Year 1 and 2 the curriculum continues to involve activity and investigation to enable pupils to think for themselves and to solve problems. Whilst drawing from the curriculum objectives of the UK National Curriculum, our lessons and activities offer a wide range of relevant experiences and learning opportunities while embedding core values such as kindness, respect, responsibility and collaboration. The Year 1 and 2 curriculum introduces the pupils to the full range of academic subjects taught as standalone lessons but with a cross-curricular approach through topics. This includes the core subjects of Maths, English and Science alongside Humanities (Geography and History), Computing, Art and Design Technology and Personal, Social and Health Education.

The well-rounded curriculum is further complemented by specialist teaching in P.E., Swimming and Music from Nursery. The ADEK curriculum for Arabic (native and non-native) and Islamic Studies for Muslim children is introduced from Year 2. Nursery pupils have half an hour Arabic introduction a week together with a weekly opportunity for native Arabic speakers to do classroom activities in Arabic. FS2 have 1 hour and Year 1 has 2 hours of Arabic a week as an introduction to this curriculum.

Everything we do in Pre-Prep is underpinned by our Skills Curriculum which introduces children to lifelong skills such as problem solving, team-work, critical thinking and independence. Skills are vital in developing  young citizens of the future and will be further built upon as Pre-Prep children move into the Prep School.
